How Solar Works

Solar energy originates in the depths of our sun. A solar electric system takes rays of light and converts them into usable electric energy (photovoltaic power). With the light of the sun and the ingenuity of American Solar, you have everything you need to exercise your power of choice and tap into a sustainable future.

There are three main components to your new solar system: the solar panels, an inverter and a bi-directional billing meter.

The solar panels collect the sun’s energy and convert it into DC electricity. The inverter then changes the electricity from DC to usable AC electricity. With a solar electric system you will be your own energy supplier. Any excess electricity your system produces is fed back into the grid, spinning your meter backward. You will receive credit for this excess electricity with net-metering.
